Love is in the air, and at Crossed Hearts Needlework & Design, we’re all about celebrating it—whether it’s romantic, platonic, or even stitched with love! 💕
Valentine’s Day may be February 14th, but let’s not forget Galentine’s on the 13th, because friendships deserve a little extra love too! And if you're single, well… you’re in excellent company. My brother, Howard, used to call me every Valentine’s morning and ask if I was feeling sad. Half-asleep, I’d always ask, What do you mean? And then he’d laugh and remind me, It’s Singles Awareness Day! I fell for it every year. But here’s the thing—his humor made me feel less single. It reminded me that love isn’t just about couples; it’s about connection, laughter, and the people who know exactly how to lift you up.
So whether you're celebrating with a sweetheart, your besties, or just your favorite cozy stitching chair, we’re making sure you have plenty of ways to spread the love.

💘 Soft Sugar Cookie Recipe! Because what’s Valentine’s Day without a little sugar? These cookies are perfect with icing and sprinkles… or plain, which is how I like them. 😉
Soft Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp almond extract (optional, but adds a bakery-style flavor!)
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 3 tbsp sour cream (this is the secret to keeping them soft!)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Mix in egg, vanilla, and almond extract until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the sour cream. Mix until just combined.
- Scoop dough using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, rolling into balls. Place on the baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
- Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass or your palm.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, until edges are set but centers look soft and puffy. Do NOT overbake—they will continue to set as they cool.
- Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Optional Icing (if you must 😉):
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles for fun!
Whisk together until smooth, then drizzle or spread on cooled cookies.
These are soft, slightly chewy, and stay fresh for days—if they last that long! 😊💖
At the heart of it all, Valentine’s Day is about sharing love in whatever way feels right to you. So let’s celebrate the colors, the coziness, and the stitches that bring us together. 💖
Happy Stitching & Happy Valentine’s!
