Stitched Together by Heartstrings: Celebrating 4 Years of Crossed Hearts 💖

Stitched Together by Heartstrings: Celebrating 4 Years of Crossed Hearts 💖

The Ozarks have finally slipped into fall — that unmistakable time when the air turns crisp, the trees show off their colors, and a cozy evening with a warm bowl of soup sounds just about perfect. As I sit surrounded by threads, fabrics, and the steady hum of behind the scenes projects in progress, I realized something beautiful: Crossed Hearts Needlework & Design turns four this week.

Four years of growing, learning, and stitching through every season. Four years of laughter, faith, and more than a few tears. And four years of watching this little dream — one that simply refused to let go of me — come to life.

How It All Began

Before 2020, I worked for a ministry in Branson and had no plans to leave. But the idea of starting a cross stitch business kept tugging at me — that quiet, persistent nudge that felt less like a whim and more like a calling. I dreamed of a brick-and-mortar shop on the historic Carthage Square, complete with tie-ins to local events and the hum of creative community.

I filled notebook after notebook with plans, sketches, and ideas. I even had a name in mind: Grand Avenue Creations. But God had other plans.

When the world slowed down in 2020, I returned home — and in the midst of uncertainty, Crossed Hearts began to take shape. Not as the physical shop I’d once envisioned, but as an online store built with heart, prayer, and perseverance.

The Heart Behind Crossed Hearts

My brother played a huge part in those early days. He was my sounding board, my encourager, and my partner in dreaming. When he was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2020, everything changed.

We spent countless hours talking — about life, faith, and the future. He was the one who suggested I start online first, keeping overhead manageable while the world found its footing again. That advice became the foundation of everything Crossed Hearts is today.

When he passed away later that year, I promised myself I’d carry the dream forward for both of us. Every new product, every collection, every tiny stitch is woven with his memory and the love we shared for creating something meaningful.

So the next year, one day before the Anniversary of his Homegoing, Crossed Hearts Needlework & Design went live. It’s hard to put into words how much this business means to me. It’s more than a shop — it’s a tribute, a journey, and a daily reminder that even in loss, beauty can bloom again.

Four Years Later — and Still Stitching Strong

These past four years have brought change, challenge, and growth in every direction. Behind the scenes, I’ve been reorganizing and strengthening the very foundation of the shop: improving navigation, refreshing product listings, and working toward a smoother, more enjoyable experience for everyone who visits.

You may notice a few little quirks or glitches here and there as those updates roll out — and if you do, I’d love for you to let me know! Every bit of feedback helps me make Crossed Hearts even better.

Soup’s On!

As the weather cools, nothing pairs better with a stitching session than something warm and comforting. Here’s a simple fall favorite that fills the kitchen with cozy aromas — perfect for an evening spent stitching by lamplight.

Autumn Harvest Corn Chowder

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3 cups corn kernels (fresh or frozen)

  • 2 cups diced potatoes

  • 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth

  • 1 cup half-and-half or cream

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional garnish: shredded cheddar, green onions, or crumbled bacon

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, cook the bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside.

  2. Sauté onion and garlic in the drippings until soft and fragrant.

  3. Add corn, potatoes, broth, and seasonings. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are tender (about 15 minutes).

  4. Stir in cream and heat through — don’t boil.

  5. Top with your favorite garnish and enjoy with a slice of warm bread.

It’s simple, hearty, and perfect for fall — just like the season we’re stepping into.

Looking Ahead

Crossed Hearts has always been about connection — to our craft, to our memories, and to one another. As we head into our fifth year, I’m excited about what’s next: new designs, new collections, and maybe even a few long-awaited surprises.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here — for shopping small, sharing kind words, and helping keep this dream alive.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Luke 12:34

Here’s to another year of stitching joy, sharing stories, and celebrating life — one thread, one chart, and one heartstring at a time.

With love and gratitude,
Shelly 💕
