Our undyed 18.5 micron Merino combed top is 100% superfine wool is next-to-skin soft, beautifully consistent, and a dream to draft.  Prepared for smooth, even drafting—so your spinning, felting, dyeing, and weaving projects finish soft, light, and luxurious.

Soft on Skin. Easy to Spin, Ready to Dye.

  • Truly next-to-skin soft (18.5 microns). About one-third the thickness of human hair, these superfine fibers feel gentle and itch-free—perfect for cowls, babywear, and sensitive skin.
  • Combed for consistency. Parallelized fibers draft cleanly for beautifully even singles. Spin worsted for sleek stitch definition, or from the fold for airier, woolen-style yarns.
  • Thermoregulating comfort. Merino naturally warms when it’s cool and breathes when it’s warm; it wicks moisture vapor and can absorb ~30–35% of its weight before feeling damp.
  • Resilient & low-odor by nature. Fine crimp adds bounce and shape retention; the protein structure helps resist odor between washes.
  • Dye-ready color uptake. Takes acid dyes deeply and evenly for saturated, luminous colorways.

Best-Fit Uses

  • Hand spinning: soft, next-to-skin yarns from sock/fingering up to DK and beyond
  • Wet felting & nuno felting: smooth, fine-hand surfaces
  • Needle felting: excellent for surface detail/finishing (use a coarser core if you want faster build-up)
  • Weaving, core-spinning, blending: mix with silk, alpaca, or plant fibers for custom effects

Fiber Facts

  • Fiber diameter: 18.5 microns (often referred to as “100’s” count)
  • Preparation: Combed top (not carded roving) for smooth drafting
  • Staple length: approx. 3–4 in (75–100 mm)
  • Hand: buttery-soft, elastic, fine crimp

Working Tips for Great Results

  • Predraft lightly to open the top; keep your hands farther apart than the staple length.
  • For airy yarn, spin from the fold with gentler twist. For sleek yarn, use a short forward draw.
  • Dyeing: presoak well; press dye through to the center for full saturation; rinse until water runs clear.
  • Felting: lay thin, even layers; superfine fibers give a smooth finish with minimal fuzz.

Care

Hand-wash cool with wool wash; squeeze (don’t wring), reshape, and dry flat. Dark or highly saturated shades may release a little dye on the first soak—rinse until clear.
